I love flowers. I LOVE them. Just as I talk about here, my love of flowers started when I was really young. My grandparents have always served as constant gardening inspiration (and inspiration overall), and I’ve always admired the passion they each share for growing vegetables and flowers. At 94, my Poppy still adores gardening – something that will forever make me smile.
My Gammie’s English style garden will forever be instilled in my memory as the best ever. She planted flowers every year and always anticipated which varieties would bloom. Her garden was stunning, and I was so sad for her to leave it when she and my Grandpa moved away. However, each year when my bleeding hearts bloom, I think of her and smile because they make me feel as though I’m keeping one piece of her glorious garden alive years later.
While I don’t grow many flowers myself (I would love to have a cutting garden in the future!), designing bouquets and centerpieces for weddings, events, and unsuspecting family and friends brings me so much joy. Designing is a challenge so different from writing. When I write, I can erase my words and start over again. But flowers are organic. The design I have in my mind is rarely what I design in the end, and each time it’s a challenge for me to let go of my idea of perfection. Flowers are beautifully imperfect, and working with them causes me to force myself to step back and realize that what I am able to do is always far better than my original plan.
I share much of what I create on Instagram, but I thought I would share a peek at a few of my favorites here! And I’m thrilled to be partnering with one of my favorite blogs to share my love for flowers with more readers very soon. The photo shoot just happened on Sunday, and the photos are definitely some of my favorites ever. Stay tuned! :)
If you can’t already tell from my website and these photos, pink is my favorite. Oh, and Oh Joy! commented on that last photo on Instagram. That caused my heart to pause for a quick second. Whaaat? Social media is so cool sometimes!
Interested in working together? Send me a note! And make sure to keep up with my floral creations on Instagram where you can also search the hashtag #caflorals.
Happy Wednesday!
