The title of this post is very strange, right? I’m fully aware. But, there’s a very sound reason behind it.
I’m in the midst of planning my second styled photo shoot. Remember the bridesmaids’ brunch? It’s still one of the creative endeavors I am most proud of. I love thinking back on that day because I knew without a doubt in the moment, and even now, that I gave my all. My biggest goal was for it to be published, but even if no one ever saw it, I was excited about the fact that I planned a shoot (a huge thing to take on!) by myself that represented my brand completely. There were moments when I was definitely winging it, but I just kept going.
I’ve wanted to plan another shoot ever since. When I was contacted by a really fun floral company, I knew I was ready to roll again. Sometimes you just need a nudge, right? Yes. I’m planning to create a DIY (I can’t wait to share the details!) and style a photo shoot around it. The shoot is next Thursday, and I haven’t searched for inspiration at all. Shocking, I know.
As a creative, searching for inspiration either causes me to up the ante on my idea because I see something that I want to add and create differently, or it can make me feel as though my concept isn’t…enough. It’s not good enough, creative enough, interesting enough, {choose a negative phrase and enter it here}. Instead of being excited about my planning process, I can become overwhelmed and sometimes embarrased by what I thought was such a fun idea when obviously it’s not. But who is saying it’s not good enough? No one, but me.
For this shoot, I decided on a theme almost immediately, and I put blinders on. You can’t compare yourself to others if you don’t put yourself in the position of allowing it to happen. So, I’m not. I’ve asked my fair share of questions and created different scenarios, but I truly haven’t wanted to look through published pieces for inspiration. The details and concept I’m imagining have meaning to me, and that alone makes them enough.
Inspiration is wonderful, but it’s how you use it that is the most important. Sometimes when you stop looking for inspiration, you feel the most inspired. So, I challenge you to take a step back, put blinders on, and really put your idea to your own test. I can already tell you it’s worth exploring, and for that reason it’s enough.
I hope you have a lovely Memorial Day weekend!

You are more than “enough”, and don’t you ever forget that!
