I’ve loved being creative ever since I was little. I distinctly remember telling my parents when I was five that I wanted to be an artist when grew up. At that time, I thought that meant I had to be a painter, but that was fine with me. As I got older, I tried every sport under the sun (quite literally…soccer, softball, basketball, swimming, volleyball, a day of lacrosse, track, and tennis), but I was never overly skilled at any of them. Art was always my constant; that thing that I was “good at” and knew that I loved.
But sometimes you forget that you love something while you’re going through the motions.
Today is photo shoot day! I cannot wait to share more about this shoot, but I’m so excited to finally see everything I have created come together. I’ve painted glass, gotten lost in a glitter project, tied more bows than you care to hear about, and ombre dyed napkins. It’s been a process for this shoot to come to life, and in my moments of frustration I asked myself why I was doing it. I felt like there needed to be a reason, and there are so many of them.
I love events (in general).
I love working with other vendors.
I love design and styling so much.
I’ve wanted to design a shoot that was entirely my idea to truly share my aesthetic.
And then there’s the biggest reason that my five-year-old self would relate to…
Creativity just makes me happy.
While I was dying napkins hot pink (after my third trip to Joann Fabrics in two days) the other weekend, I realized I was having the. best. time. In that moment, I remembered why I had wanted to design a photo shoot in the first place. Do I have a big goal for this project? YES! But getting lost in the goal or the reason why isn’t as important as remembering that the little girl who loved art never solely focused on one. She painted, glued, played with sand art, and created a ton of other projects just because she loved anything that had to do with being creative.
So I say to you: goals are awesome, but don’t forget why you love something and make sure to do it just because too.
Just because…our favorite motto:) But I can’t wait to see the photos because the set up looked awesome! You truly are creatively inspired!!!
This is such a good post and a great reminder! Having a creative job, I definitely forget this sometimes.
You have created another awesome article!
