During my junior and senior years of high school and my freshman year in college, I had the hardest time deciding whether to major in communications or education. I had a huge dream to work in the entertainment industry (something that would come to a halt at the end of an internship) and I also loved (and still love) kids. Although my dreams and goals were different, both industries had a common theme: I wanted to influence people by sharing my voice and knowledge.
Ultimately, I chose communications during my very first week of college classes. It’s a choice I’ll never regret because it’s one I would make again and again. Plus, it’s what lead me here! However, education is such a part of my core. I love school; I love learning; I LOVE speaking (with bells on).
As I’ve grown, changed, and navigated the wedding and lifestyle industries as a creative entrepreneur over the past five years, I’ve learned so much. I’ve learned your brand is constantly evolving because you are constantly evolving. I’ve learned about the power of reaching out to others (the very reason why I’m part of The Every Last Detail team!). I’ve learned how very important it is to find a tribe who just gets you because you all work in the same industry (something that’s true in any industry, not just this one). And I’ve learned the questions about when, how, and why to start (or continue!) are, quite honestly, never ending and ever present.
One of my greatest goals for 2016 was to speak and teach. I wanted to bring three of my life’s greatest passions – writing, speaking, and teaching – together, and I’m thrilled to announce I’m teaching a class for The School of Styling! Just like Every Last Detail, I sent an email when Kaitlin announced a call for classes and speakers, and I was thrilled when she said yes to me.
The Creative Business Crash Course is a great tool for creative entrepreneurs who are just beginning their journey, but I think the course is a fantastic choice for owners who have been in business for a few years too. I will be the first to tell you there’s always something to learn! The course is running for six weeks, and there are 10 instructors involved. You’ll find courses on copywriting (my class!), social media, law (I’m such a fan of Christina Schalara), and so much more. Together with The School of Styling, the instructors are also offering webinars, PDFs, and an online community.
Make sure to hop over to the blog today to read why copy is important (I’ll sing this from the rooftops for days!), learn more about the course, and register (registration closes TOMORROW). Hop to it, y’all!
I also promise to blog more because I have weddings to share! In the mean time, make sure you’re following along on Instagram where I am quite post happy. What I get to do and why I hustle (…a word I do not like) is because of you and your support. Thank you for cheering me on and working with me, friends! : )
